It isn’t so easy
becoming a person who is homeless. Life throws people curves. The curves
lead to hardships. Along the way, the day-to-day problems that result often
are exacerbated by mental illness or addictions or destructive behavior.
Soon, normal human relationships are destroyed. And one day, the
man or a woman is sleeping under a bridge at night, hiding meager
possessions behind a tree, wandering the streets during daylight hours,
trying to remember what happened to the life left behind.
There are
social service agencies doing good work with many people who are homeless,
providing shelter, transportation, giving all forms of aid. But some people
most at risk can’t or won’t enter the system.
They fall between the
cracks. And before they can even enroll in a program, they need to relearn
the simplest of life skills.
It starts with a personal invitation. |
